Why do people use url shorteners

In many web pages, advertisements direct users to the company's website. They advertise that the link is 'shortened' or shortened. This refers to the shortened web address that directs users to the company's site. Essentially, shortened web addresses are shorter versions of full web pages that contain advertisements. Typically, advertisers create shortened web pages to increase their website's accessibility and usability. However, these shortened versions can negatively affect a user's browsing experience.

Some users find shortened web pages more interesting than their original URLs. These shortened web pages have different content and design compared to their original sources. Plus, some shortened web pages direct users to a single page with multiple advertisements. In this case, the shortened web address effectively replaces a series of full web pages with advertisements. Such a design reduces the time required for a user to reach an advertisement and reduces the number of steps required for general browsing. Because shorter URLs are more effective, many sites opt to shorten their links instead of creating new links. Furthermore, several online services offer the ability to shorten any valid URL without any charge. These services help shorten URLs so that users can more easily access specific web pages or online services.

Shortened web addresses are especially helpful when users want to avoid unwanted web pages. These shortened links bypass an operator's advertising and redirect users directly to the page they seek. Unfortunately, many shortening services use a randomly generated domain name when creating links. This prevents other websites from adhering and redirecting unwanted users to their sites anyway. For this reason, it's best to only use service when creating shortened web addresses. Otherwise, these services will redirect undesired browsing while allowing authorized users access to websites they want.

Generally speaking, shortened web addresses are easier to remember than full URLs. Each one represents a single destination instead of multiple linked locations or logins into different websites. Additionally, the abbreviated version is easy to type without additional confusion or mistakes. In addition, people less familiar with the internet may associate a shortened address with the current website they are viewing. As such, it's easy to remember that www.mysite.com refers to the website you are currently viewing. In comparison, if you were viewing mysite-com, you would need to remember that www in mysite refers to an internet protocol rather than your current website address- so you would need to add an extra 'y' at the end of mysite-com if you wanted it in text form!

Shortened URLs are easily accessible links that can help you find what you are looking for quickly and easily. Additionally, these abbreviated links act as handy memory aids for new users unfamiliar with the internet or with specific websites. Ultimately, using shortened web addresses makes it easier for everyone!
